With the approach of Fall and the threat of frost, we helped the Grade 3/4 students harvest the crops they planted in June. The huge vines that covered the north side of the orchard sported some huge gourds which will hopefully become birdhouses to attract purple martins and house wrens. There are already reports of hummingbirds visiting the trumpet-shaped flowers on their way south. The potato crop was also very bountiful and the peppers, tomatoes, basil and oregano looked terrific. I sense a pizza party coming soon! The extra gourds were placed in boxes in the gazebo. If you would like one for a Thanksgiving decoration, please feel free to help yourself. The flowers planted by the students in their ABC garden are just gorgeous! Feel free to take a pair of scissors and help yourself to a Fall bouquet.
